Larry L. Laine Biography

A native Texan, Larry L. Laine brings a wealth of experience to the Texas General Land Office as Chief Clerk and Deputy Land Commissioner.
Larry was sworn in as Chief Clerk of the Land Office in January 2003 under Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson. Prior to becoming Chief Clerk, Larry was employed as Legislative Director for Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn. His diverse background includes work in both the private and public sector. His experience with Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson began in 1992 with Patterson's first campaign for Texas Senate. Larry served as campaign manager and then, following Patterson’s swearing-in, Chief of Staff for the Senate office.
Larry has also owned and operated a small contracting business, and has a background in real estate and property management. He can also add the titles of ranch hand and electric company lineman to his varied background.
Larry is a leader in his church, serving as a Ruling Elder at Christ the King Church in Austin. His community involvement includes weekly volunteer trips for Meals on Wheels and serving as a board member for his local homeowners association. Larry is an avid cyclist who, as a member of Team GLO, has been named to the MS150's Hall of Fame for his phenomenal fund-raising efforts to fight muscular sclerosis. He and his wife Connie reside in Austin and have four children and two grandsons.
