Join Us For An Unaccompanied Veteran Burial At The Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery

On Wednesday, June 28th at 11:00 a.m. sharp, the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran Burial for U.S. Army Veteran Private First Class (PFC) James Earl Pickens. Born on July 27, 1960, PFC Pickens served from August 1978 to August 1981.PFC Pickens is not expected to have any next-of-kin attend his burial. Please help us spread the word and ensure that this U.S. Army Veteran is not buried alone. Members of the Killeen community are encouraged to attend.PFC Pickens will receive military honors. Commissioner Dawn Buckingham announces approval of more than $128 million in Regional Mitigation Program projects

Today Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., announced the Texas General Land Office (GLO) approved $128,208,664 in regional mitigation funds for 19 federally eligible infrastructure projects to improve streets as well as water and drainage facilities in the cities of Aransas Pass, Coldspring, Corrigan, Dayton, Freeport, Hitchcock, Iowa Colony, Katy, La Marque, Palacios, Pearland, Richwood, Rosenberg, Shepherd, Texas City, and the counties of Jefferson, Liberty, and Waller.  Today, Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D. is honored to update Texans on World War II Veteran U.S. Army Corporal Carl Reid's request to receive 100 cards for his 100th birthday on June 15th. In this episode, we hear the story of Texas Veteran Mr. John Simmons Jr. of Corpus Christi. Mr. Simmons is a retired U.S. Navy Aircraft Mechanic who served for 20 years. During his time in service, Mr. Simmons completed three tours in Vietnam and served on the USS Kitty Hawk. Read More

Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. is pleased to announce that Texans can order their own Texas Adopt-A-Beach specialty license plate to help reduce litter on Texas beaches and provide coastal environmental education to Texas children.This newly redesigned black and white specialty plate costs only $30 more than a regular plate, and $22 of plate sales go directly to support the Adopt-A-Beach program and is tax deductible.Additionally, the license plate features a photo by Texas' own Kenny Braun. World War II Veteran Requests 100 Cards for His 100th Birthday

Today,  Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D. called on the Big Spring community to show support for one of our courageous Veterans, World War II Veteran U.S. Army Corporal (CPL) Carl Reid, who turns 100 on June 15th. CPL Reid— a resident at the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home (TSVH) in Big Spring— has requested at least 100 birthday cards for this incredible milestone. CPL Reid served in the U.S. Army during World War II, entering into active duty on September 26, 1944.
