AUSTIN — The Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans Home will host a meet and greet for El Paso's top veterans advocates at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20.
Congressman Silvestre Reyes, State Reps. Joe Pickett and Dee Margo, Mayor John Cook and City Councilman Carl Robinson will join El Paso's VA Director, Joan Ricard, and others to see the home and get acquainted with top administrators for both the Texas Veterans Land Board and the home's private operator, Sears Methodist.
"The VLB works hard to make this home a part of the El Paso veterans community," said Kevin Warren, deputy commissioner for the VLB. "Breaking bread with our local partners at the VA and the elected officials we depend on will help us all work closer together to better serve El Paso's veterans."
Texas State Veterans Homes are made possible through a unique partnership between the VLB and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Each home provides skilled long-term nursing care, comprehensive rehabilitation programs, special diets, recreational activities, social services, a library, and a certified, secured Alzheimer's unit with its own secured outdoor courtyard.
