AUSTIN — Victims of the 2011 Bastrop fires may now apply for federal aid to help rehabilitate or rebuild their homes. Applications for the aid are due by Sept. 28.
Bastrop fire victims wishing to apply for grant money to rebuild may get an application from the Texas General Land Office website or contact Lutheran Social Services Disaster Response at 855-706-7556. Lutheran Social Services is the case manager for the state's Wildfire Housing Program.
Funding for the grants comes from $31.3 million worth of Community Development Block Grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which are being administered by the Land Office.
Homeowner applicants must be able to show that their primary residence was in Bastrop and was destroyed by the 2011 fires. Applicants also may not have a household income exceeding 100 percent of the Area Median Family Income, which is about $76,000 a year for a family of four.
Applications for down payment assistance for individuals who may or may not have owned a home previously will be available in October 2012.
