BONHAM, Texas — Some may argue that going to the lake on Memorial Day weekend is a distraction from the true meaning of the holiday. But this Friday, the residents and staff of the Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home have found a way to both honor our veterans and work in an afternoon of fishing.
A Pre-Memorial Day Celebration will start at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 23, at the front entrance near the flag poles at the home, located at 1300 Seven Oaks Road, in Bonham. This public event will honor the residents of the Clyde W. Cosper home, as well as departed service men and women. Following the opening ceremony, guests will visit residents in their rooms.
After lunch, the residents of the home will be taken to VFW Post 4852, which is located at Lake Bonham, for an afternoon of fishing.
Special guests include Rex Jackson, associate pastor of worship at Boyd Baptist Church, recruiters from the Dallas Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), an honor guard from Boy Scout Troop 605, and Billy Teague, a volunteer.
