Texas State Veterans Home - Houston Admissions

How do I qualify for admission at a Texas State Veterans Home?

You must be at least 18 years of age and be a qualified Veteran. You must also meet medical necessity, which requires the services of a licensed nurse and the availability of 24-hour nursing care. An application must be submitted for consideration to be admitted to a Texas State Veterans Home.

You must be a Veteran with a discharge other than dishonorable, a spouse, or widow/widower, of a qualified Veteran, or a Gold Star Parent. You must have a need for nursing home care, a completed and signed application for admission including a copy of the Veteran’s DD214, or equivalent discharge document.

Veterans with a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Service-Connected Disability rating of 70%, or greater, due to their military service will have priority placement.

What is the process for admission to a Texas State Veterans Home?

Submit a completed TSVH application, a copy of the Veteran's DD214 Service Record, or equivalent discharge document, a copy of insurance cards, and if applicable, a copy of the medical, and/or financial, power of attorney form(s).

Note: If the Veteran/applicant does not sign the application for admission, a copy of the applicable power of attorney form for the person who signs on the applicant's behalf should be provided.

If the applicant is a spouse, or widow, of a Veteran, they should submit the above information along with a copy of the marriage certificate to the Veteran.

The TSVH application can be found online at TexasVeterans.com. The application can be mailed, faxed, or hand-delivered; or individuals may contact the home of their choice for detailed information and an application.

The Texas State Veterans Home in Houston will be a state-of-the-art Veterans home in the most underserved area of the state and serve 120 Veterans in a small-house neighborhood community.
