Why Houston?

Texas is home to nearly 1.7 million Veterans. Harris County has the largest Veteran population in the state with approximately 183,000 Veterans, and of that Veteran population, approximately 67,800 Veterans are over the age of 65. Research shows that persons over the age of 65 will require an average of three years of long-term care. Twenty percent of the over-65 population will require five years, or more, of long-term care.

What are the benefits of having a Texas State Veterans Home in our community?

The Texas State Veterans Home (TSVH) in southeast Houston will be an economic win for the local community and state taxpayers. It will bring a $44.6 million project to the city.
Once completed, the new home will employ between 140 and 160 permanent full-time employees with occupations including skilled nursing, administration, food services and maintenance. The home will also provide business for existing health care-related services in the area.

The facility will be a state-of-the-art Veterans home in the most underserved area in the state of Texas and serve 120 Veterans in a small-house neighborhood community.
