Donations & Volunteers
The VLB may accept and administer gifts, grants, or donations to support the Texas State Veterans Homes and their residents. Typically, private donations are used to purchase amenities for the residents that improve quality of life, such as pool tables and even ice cream machines.
A donation is a voluntary monetary payment, in-kind contribution or non-monetary gift in which the donor expects no compensation or direct benefit as a result of the donation, and it may include devises or bequests.

Volunteers are needed!
Community and volunteer involvement is vital to every Texas State Veterans Home. Volunteers can enhance the quality of life for our residents, by visiting with residents, and assisting with activities. The VLB believes each individual or group volunteer can add variety to the residents daily activities for a higher quality of life.
Volunteers help make each home a special, caring place for our honored residents.
Individuals can:
- visit with residents
- provide transportation
- lead discussion groups
- assist with gardening or plant care
- participate in music appreciation and sing-alongs
- assist with arts and crafts projects
- assist with scrap book assembly
- deliver mail
- assist with scheduled activities
- write letters
- play cards, games, dominos, etc.
Groups are needed to:
- adopt a nursing home
- provide entertainment
- sponsor parties or events
- raise funds for resident council projects
