Eligibility

Texas State Veterans Homes are a special benefit for those men and women who have served Texas with honor.  To be eligible for admission into a VLB Texas State Veterans Home, the applicant must:

• be recognized as an "eligible veteran" by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
• require long-term nursing care as determined by a physician and concurred by the VA,
• be at least 18 years old,
• be a bona fide resident of Texas at the time of application
• not be dishonorably discharged.

Additional eligibility

The spouse, or unmarried surviving spouse, of a veteran and Gold Star parents are also eligible provided they meet the age and residency requirements above.  Gold Star parents refer to those who have lost sons or daughters in active duty.
