Bahia Grande Restoration

Summary

This project will enlarge the pilot channel from 60- foot wide to a 225-foot wide main channel to provide a higher volume of tidal exchange of approximately 32% and will construct a 30-foot wide northern "Vadia Ancha" channel to provide tidal exchange into Little Laguna Madre. A recreational and educational access area will also be constructed along SH 48 at the main channel site into Bahia Grande and will include historical information on native use of Bahia Grande by indigenous people as well as the unique waterfowl, marine fish and wildlife and coastal vegetation within the Bahia Grande complex.
