Natural Gas Vehicle Program

The Land Office participates in the Natural Gas Initiative Program Grant (NGIP) to encourage the use of clean-burning natural gas in heavy-duty fleet vehicles. The program is funded by a Texas Emissions Reduction Plan grant through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

A variety of vehicles — including street sweepers, forklifts, buses, and garbage trucks — are eligible for NGIP grants to help cover the cost of replacing diesel vehicles with natural gas vehicles. The Land Office gives preference for these grants to state and local public sector fleets. However, private fleets may also be eligible, especially those that operate under government contract.
