The Texas General Land Office also leases state lands to companies to mine other minerals, including limestone, gravel, coal, sulfur, and more. Hard minerals underneath state lands and mineral classified lands are explored and leased in different ways, depending upon the type of mineral and the type of land.

Along with oil and gas leases, this is another way that the Land Office generates revenue for the Permanent School Fund.
