The Texas General Land Office issues surface, or upland, leases, which authorize activities such as farming, ranching, hunting, recreation, and timber production on state-owned lands. Uplands Leasing is responsible for over 750,000 acres of Permanent School Fund (PSF) land located throughout 140 counties in Texas.
Currently, there are active upland surface leases, commercial leases, and miscellaneous easements on approximately 638,000 acres of Permanent School Fund land.
