Cmr. George P. Bush announces conservation effort for 1836 Alamo battle cannons
Monday, Oct. 2, Texas General Land Office Commissioner George P. Bush and the Alamo concluded Cannon Fest, a weekend-long event exploring the artillery of the Texas Revolution, by announcing conservation efforts for the Alamo's seven 1836 battle cannons. Preservation work will be performed in partnership with the Texas A&M University Conservation Research Lab in College Station, Texas.

SAN ANTONIO - Cmr. George P. Bush and Mayor Ivy Taylor are thrilled to congratulate three local students who were recently named winners of the 2017 Camp Alamo Art Contest. This spring, students ages 9 - 13 were invited to submit art projects illustrating what the Alamo means to them. Three winners were chosen to receive full scholarships to Camp Alamo, an annual, week-long summer camp on the Alamo grounds. On Friday, two of the winners, Hayley Dodge and Giana N. Acosta, met with San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor at City Hall.

AUSTIN - Today agents from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and officers from the San Antonio Police Department responded to reports of suspicious packages in the area of Hipolito F. Garcia Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse adjacent to the Alamo Complex. Alamo Rangers coordinated with these agencies to secure the grounds and assist with keeping people safe.

SAN ANTONIO - The Texas General Land Office (GLO) and the Alamo proudly announce the launch of a new interactive exhibit, Bowie: Man - Knife - Legend. The exhibit explores the life and times of Alamo defender James Bowie, and also examines the impact that his famous knife had on Texas and the frontier. The exhibit will open in the newly refurbished Alamo Annex on Saturday, March 4, with an official kick-off event later in the month.

"Our history is at risk of being lost forever," said Commissioner Bush. "That history shows us not only how we got here, but also gives us the knowledge to understand what here means.

Bush announced a digitization project between the Texas General Land Office and the Texas Military Forces Museum providing digital access to several unique maps documenting the movements of the 36th Infantry Division in France during World War I. The digitized maps are now available, for the first time, on the Texas General Land Office (GLO) map database, along with more than 45,000 other maps, sketches and drawings."The Texas General Land Office has been a leading institution in digitizing archival records," said Commissioner Bush.

Austin's Map of Texas with Parts of Adjoining States Compiled by Stephen F. Austin, published by H.S. Tanner, printed in 1848, in memory of Mrs. Taylor's parents, Harrison K. and Margaret C.
