AUSTIN — Today Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the Cameron County Park Adopt-A-Beach site will be dedicated in honor of Monica Vela who served as the site's coordinator for 23 years.

Monica C. Vela, a resident of Port Isabel, passed away at home with her family on Friday, Aug. 14, 2015. She married Pedro Vela, Sr., and together they raised two children, Pedro, Jr., and Paul. Monica dedicated her life to her community and volunteered in several capacities, including serving as an Adopt-A-Beach site coordinator at Cameron County Park beaches for 23 years on South Padre Island. We are honored to dedicate the Cameron County Park Adopt-A-Beach site in honor of Monica's service and appreciation for the Texas Coast."
