Cmr. George P. Bush statement regarding $46.4 million in recovery funds for three South Texas and Rio Grande Valley Counties

Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush issued the following statement in reaction to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) issuance of $46,400,000 in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding for Cameron, Hidalgo and Jim Wells Counties in response to significant flooding in 2018."Today HUD issued much-needed federal disaster recovery dollars in response to the devastating flooding in South Texas last June," said Commissioner Bush. WATKINS-LOGAN TEXAS STATE VETERANS HOME MEMORIAL DAY EVENT

The Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home is pleased to invited the community to a Memorial Day event, Monday, May 27th, honoring those who gave their lives for our country while on active duty.  Attendance is estimated to be around 200 -300. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by a BBQ banquet catered by Bodacious BBQ in Lindale, TX. The Alamo launches new tour ‘Weapons of the Alamo'

The Alamo is happy to announce the launch of a brand new, living historybased tour called, “Weapons of the Alamo.”        This will be the first living history-based tour at the Alamo. The Weapons of the Alamo tour will teach visitors about the weapons wielded by Crockett, Esparza, and all the Alamo defenders. Led by an Alamo Living Historian, dressed in 19th century attire, this hour-long tour will unpack the mechanics, use, and importance of rifles, muskets and cannons during the 1836 Battle of the Alamo. MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY AND LUNCHEON

On Friday, May 24th, the Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans Home will host a special Memorial Day event honoring those who gave their lives for our country while on active duty. Residents, family members, staff and guests will join together for a formal ceremony followed by a luncheon. Around 250 individuals are expected to attend this remembrance ceremony. Cmr. George P. Bush calls on Texans to plan for pet disaster preparedness

In observance of National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day on May 11, today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush is urging Texans to plan for the whole family, including pets, when preparing for severe weather.“Hurricane Harvey devastated communities and left thousands of pets in need of rescue,” said Commissioner Bush. “When severe weather is in the forecast, make sure your pets are prepared by creating an emergency kit. CMR BUSH ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF MATAGORDA VESSEL TURN-IN PROGRAM

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the results of the Vessel Turn-In program offered in Matagorda, Texas. The total number of vessels turned in from both Matagorda and Sargent, Texas tallied 26 vessels for a total of 45 gallons of fuel/oil collected (which was recovered for proper disposal). Read More

Inspired by the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s #ThisPlaceMatters campaign, The Past Revealed reminds visitors why we remember the Alamo and why #ThisPlaceMatters.
