Bush announced the Texas General Land Office (GLO) approved $516,432 in Hurricane Harvey disaster recovery grants for the city of Simonton to make flood and drainage improvements. Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the Texas General Land Office (GLO) approved $11,199,922 in Hurricane Harvey funds to make flood and drainage improvements and conduct an acquisition program for approximately 24 residential properties located in a floodplain or repetitive flood areas in Montgomery County. These communities were overwhelmed by Hurricane Harvey as heavy rainfall caused flooding of streets and homes, threatening public health, safety, and welfare."Hurricane Harvey devastated communities across the Texas Coast," said Commissioner Bush.

Today the Texas General Land Office is reminding Texans who received federal assistance following Hurricane Harvey that Group Flood Insurance Policy (GFIP) certificates are set to expire on Oct. 24, 2020. In order to remain compliant, a new flood insurance policy must be purchased by Nov. 23, 2020. GFIP offers flood insurance coverage for three years after which survivors are required to obtain and maintain flood insurance for the affected residence. Following Hurricane Harvey, 6,690 GFIPs were issued across impacted communities.

The decision also allows the GLO to move forward with sending Action Plan Amendment 7 to the U.S.
