Summary
This project will finalize engineering and construct approximately 8,820 linear feet of rock breakwaters, approximately 13,500 linear feet of floatation channels, and the beneficial use of dredge materials if the floatation channels are constructed. The purpose of the project is to protect and enhance existing estuarine marsh habitats. The project will protect up to 85 acres of natural estuarine marsh complex including 67 acres of intertidal emergent marsh interspersed with 120 acres of shallow open water seagrass beds and 18 acres of vegetated and non-vegetated sand flats. The project may also enhance up to 12 acres of restored marsh mounds. The breakwater will create 17,640 linear feet of three-dimensional hard-structure habitat for fisheries species.
