Project Description
Acquisition of approximately .4 acres of land adjacent to Blucher Park on Tancahua Street in the downtown area only a few blocks away from the Corpus Christi waterfront. Blucher Park is a nationally recognized and popular bird-watching site currently on the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. It provides natural habitat for birdlife and is an essential local fall-out spot for thousands of migrating birds. By increasing the park size and preserving its natural habitat, the revitalization will enhance local ecotourism by attracting the thousands of birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts currently using the Great Texas Birding Trail and encourage them to stay longer and see more of the Corpus Christi coastal area. The site's bird richness results from the coastal confluence of three migratory paths that are utilized in the spring and fall by the migratory species. This acquisition will increase the size of the park and enhance the recreational opportunity to boost the local economy by attracting more avitourists and nature enthusiasts along the Texas coast.
