AUSTIN — Today members of Commissioner Dawn Buckingham’s Texas General Land Office (GLO)
Disaster Recovery team joined Galveston County leaders in a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating
the completion of the Lauderdale Boat Ramp and Dock Project. The GLO invested $3,866,025 in
disaster recovery funds to reconstruct Lauderdale Dock and for extensive improvements to Bayside
Park, including a dedicated area for fishing.
“The Texas General Land Office continues to make great strides in administering federal disaster
recovery projects, which benefit communities along the coast,” said Commissioner Dawn
Buckingham, M.D. “Working together with Galveston County, the GLO is investing millions of
dollars in funds to better serve the community as it continues to grow. The Lauderdale Boat Ramp
and Dock will provide unprecedented access to incredible fishing and boating opportunities for Texas families and outdoor enthusiasts just in time for summer.”
The GLO’s Disaster Recovery team joined County Commissioners Joe Giusti (Precinct #2) and Nancy
Baher, Galveston County Assistant County Engineer, to mark the occasion. The Lauderdale Ramp
and Dock Project was a joint effort between the Texas General Land Office and Galveston County.
This project consisted of removal of the existing boat ramp and wood dock, construction of a new
boat ramp and two wooden timber docks, constriction of a steel bulkhead, the addition of rip rap to
the existing jetty and shoreline, roadway and parking area improvements, sidewalks, site lighting,
picnic tables, and native landscaping.
