On Friday, November 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran Burial for U.S. Air Force Veteran Staff Sergeant (SSgt.) Leslie Marlan Gunnarson. Born on July 15, 1958, SSgt. Gunnarson served from July 1976 to March 1983. SSgt. Gunnarson received the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster for his service to our nation.

Commissioner Buckingham Directs GLO to Survey State Land for Cartel Tunnels

Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., directed Texas General Land Office (GLO) Asset Enhancement Department staff to identify tracts of GLO-managed land along the border, particularly in Hudspeth County and other high-risk areas, that could be vulnerable to cartel tunnel activity. While on their routine land inspections, GLO field personnel are being tasked with surveilling these properties using existing aerial and drone technology to detect possible tunnel entrances or suspicions of underground activity.
