Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., is pleased to announce the Texas General Land Office (GLO) has approved $9,000,000 in awards from the Local Communities Program (LCP). The program funds projects to restore public infrastructure, strengthen local economies, and address long-term needs to help eligible communities recover from the 2024 Disasters. This announcement includes $5 million to build an emergency shelter for San Jacinto County and $4 million for drainage improvements in the city of Clifton.

“In 2024, Hurricane Beryl and other severe storms caused extensive damage across Texas, impacting communities and critical infrastructure,” Commissioner Buckingham said. “The GLO is proud to support Texans as they rebuild stronger and more resilient. These Local Communities Program grants will help restore public infrastructure, strengthen local economies, and address long‑term recovery needs in eligible disaster‑affected areas.”

The competition was open to local governments (city or county) or Indian tribes located in one of the 92 counties designated as eligible by HUD. HUD designated 27 counties as most impacted or distressed (MID) and requires at least 80% of program funds be granted to MID applications.
