PRESS RELEASE — Jan 10, 2024

AUSTIN — Today, Commissioner Dawn Buckingham M.D. announced that the GLO is currently accepting admissions for the 28th Annual Treasures of the Texas Coast Children’s Art Contest. This contest is facilitated through the Texas General Land Office’s (GLO) Adopt-A-Beach Program.

The contest encourages all public, private, and homeschooled Texas students in kindergarten through sixth grade to send in their masterpieces. The contestants' artwork should be based on the theme "Treasures of the Texas Coast” and depict what makes the Texas coast important to each individual student.

"As Texas Land Commissioner, a Texan who grew up near the coast, and as a mother, it was truly an honor to pick last year's winner of this inspiring competition and appreciate all of the beautiful artwork created by young Texans who love the Texas coast," said Commissioner Buckingham. "I encourage all young Texans, grades K-6, to submit their work, not only for a chance to win incredible prizes but also to illustrate how much the next generation cares about the future of Texas beaches."

This year's grand prize winner will receive one 6–8-night Caribbean cruise for two from Royal Caribbean International and a copy of the book “The Big Beach Cleanup” by Charlotte Offsay.

The grand prize winner's teacher will also receive one 6–8-night Caribbean cruise for two courtesy of Royal Caribbean and a prize from Adopt-A-Beach.

All 40 winners will receive two free day passes to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels or Galveston, one free ticket to visit the USS Lexington, a coupon to visit the Texas State Aquarium, prizes from Texas Adopt-A-Beach, a certificate of recognition from the Texas General Land Office, and copies of the 2025 calendar displaying the winning artwork.

All entries must be post marked by Wednesday, March 6, 2024 and sent to:
