Offshore Galveston Sand Source Investigation Feasibility Study

Project Description

This project included geophysical and geotechnical investigations of two potential submerged sand sources off the shore of Galveston Island that had been identified in the USACE feasibility study. The project goals include delineating sand resources and developing a permit application for dredging the sand and using to nourish beaches on Galveston Island. Researchers at Texas A&M University-Galveston and a professional engineering firm are conducting the project. Coastal Management Program grant funds (Section 309) are partially funding this study.
