South Padre Island-Beach Nourishment with BUDM

Project Description

This beach nourishment project at South Padre Island utilized beach quality sand dredged from the Brazos-Santiago Pass by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The placement site for the dredged sand was an area approximately four to five miles north of the Brazos-Santiago Pass north jetty. The existing beach is eroding at a rate of approximately five feet per year. Nourishment of the beach will help to maintain the town’s most important economic assets, the public beach. The project was completed in December 2000.
