A Working Sketch is a draftsman’s graphic interpretation of the relationships between surveys, together with other pertinent surveying information, as reflected by field note records on file in the General Land Office. It is a surveying and research aid and is not meant to depict actual construction on the ground. Other constructions or interpretations may be possible.

The symbols show how a beginning point (beginning arrow), a corner tie, or a line tie, are tied to (or call for) existing survey corners or existing survey lines.
On the PDF entitled “Working Sketch Symbols with Block Names Rev 2026-08.PDF”, you will see ‘B’, ‘BR’, ‘C’, ‘CR’, or ‘L’ with numbers, next to the symbol. These are the block names.
The blocks were created using AutoCAD 2013
No, the blocks are only available in DWG format at the moment.
The insertion point of the block should be placed at the corner of the survey with the head (either an arrowhead or a ‘T’ for “ties”) of the symbol rotated such that the head of the symbol is inside the boundary from which the field note information is transcribed.
The blocks are drawn at a 1:1 scale. Therefore, if your drawing scale is 1:200, the block should be inserted at a 200 scale.
The blocks are drawn on the ‘0’ layer.
