A native of Tennessee, Lawson Beard joined the U.S. Army in 1952 and served until he retired in 1973. During that time he was assigned to telecommunications and the signal corps as a teletype operator. He spent time in both Korea and Vietnam during those wars and now resides in Temple, Texas.
