The late Joe Raspante was born in Louisiana and reared in Kansas City, MO. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served aboard the USS Arcadia and USS Wharton, a destroyer tender and a transport ship, respectively, before eventually being aboard the USS Mullany, a Fletcher class destroyer. The Mullany was struck by a kamikaze during the Okinawa invasion. Years later Mr. Raspante was a resident of Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home in Tyler, TX.
