Johnnie Turner served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.
Johnnie Turner joined the U.S. Navy at the age of seventeen in 1944. Mr. Turner spent his eighteenth birthday in Iwo Jima and saw the U.S. flag being raised on
Mount Suribachi from his ship the USS Skirmish (AM 303). He served as a police officer in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Fort Worth, Texas. Mr. Turner now resides at the William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home in Temple, Texas.
