Port Alto Shoreline Protection and Habitat Restoration Construction Project

Project Description

The following concepts have been developed by project stakeholders to address shoreline erosion and loss critical marsh habitat: dredging and beneficial use of dredge material (BUDM) to nourish the shoreline, restoration of marsh circulation, installation of a living shoreline and dune, and implementation of beach management practices. The project site is approximately 14 acres and consists of estuarine wetland, oyster, open water, beach, and upland habitats. Presently, 4.78 acres of estuarine wetlands (including 2.91 acres of smooth cordgrass) and 0.26 acres of oyster habitat exist and will be protected and enhanced by this project. Approximately 1700 linear feet of bay shoreline will be stabilized or managed as a part of this project.
