SPI Beach & Dune Monitoring Study

Project Description

The study will complete lidar surveys to compliment the current annual transect surveys that are completed in partnership with the GLO. The goal is to increase monitoring frequency seasonally over the funding biennium as well as include different methods for a better understanding of our beach and dune system. The monitoring will be completed through advanced techniques such as LiDAR drone flights and photogrammetry. Reports will be compiled following each flight and detail the comparison between previous flights. An example of the data to be collected and reports that would be funded through this project is attached in the supporting documentation. These reports will provide a more in-depth analysis of seasonal changes that can be translated into the City and GLO’s coastal management and erosion mitigation strategies while also contributing to the long-term preservation and resilience of the Island’s shoreline.
