Project Description
Located in Matagorda County, City of Palacios, features a 1320 ft bay beach known as Palacios Bay Beach. Since its construction, the bay beach has seen loss of sand and beach erosion as well as lost a previously placed groin. Loss of sediment threatens public access and resources related to the use of the public beach. Without the inclusion of an adequately designed groin system to contain any beach nourishments, the existing bulkhead is under threat of damage, which could affect upland infrastructure. The City is seeking to do a feasibility study and alternatives analysis project to look at optimizing the shoreline for sediment retention, possible beach nourishment, and groin establishment or extensions.
